During the Vesak festival the children involved themselves in making Vesak Lanterns and illuminating them on the centre premises.
They also participated in the religious programmes which were organized by Indrasiri School.

In addition to learning English at school the children also have the opportunity to study English under the able volunteers who are on placements. Projects abroad, National Youth Service and ISEC programme also places volunteers at the centre.

In addition 15 children from Vajira Sri Children’s home have won a scholarship from the American Centre in Colombo, for a study programme to read for an English Diploma, under the Dynead programme.

We welcome the services of volunteers who are intending to have their placement during their vacations. We are able to offer them suitable accommodation and food for a very nominal fee.

The Vajirans have the opportunity to learn computer hardware and also software. The computer lab provides the children to undergo training in computers. The children are most fortunate to have the services of a Computer Engineer who visits the centre twice a week to train the children.

Psychosocial programmes - Because of the need to provide an opportunity for personality development of the children, as serious of Psychosocial development programmes are being organsied by different professionals such as Dr. Gamage. CHA, and other organizations who are interested in the welfare of the children.

Volunteers :- Vajira Children’s Development Center is fortunate to have the services of volunteers, who come to the Centre to help as volunteers. The Volunteers always help to improve the knowledge of English and help the children how to learn English. We are very thankful to the organization Volunteer Projects Abroad, the University of Kelaniya and National Youth Service who sent the volunteers to work at the centre. We also thank all the volunteers who worked with us either on short assignments and medium period assignments,

First Aid – Understanding the importance of first Aid, a series of camps were organized by the Colombo Branch of the Red Cross .  We now have our Red Cross First Aid unit.

Leadership Training   in the year 2013 – the children of Vajira had a marvelous experience under the leadership and training of Captain Sumedha Mirihana, able assisted by his assistant Danushka Fernando of Amana Takaful Insurance who sponsored the programme.  It was a very valuable experience for the children where they learned team building.

Dancing – Vajirians are talented in many areas. This year too they won the District and Western Provincial championship and was able to come 3rd in the National Level Competition.

Music – Vajirians were successful in the field of music. Our students were very successful In the Inter District Singing Competition organized by the Department of Education. Last year the students won the district championship and was able to compete for the Western Provincial competition organized by the Department of Education.

For three consecutive years we were able to organize a special programme “ Vajira Singing Star”. The youth from the centre were given the opportunity to compete for the Vajira Singing Star Trophy”. The second year we were able to organize the tournament where 5 children’s homes in the Western Province participated for the competition. Vajira won the 1st, 3rd and 4th place at the competition.

In the year 2014 we were able get the participation from over 150 children from the Children’s homes in the Western Province. 30 children were selected for the next round. The selected youth also participated in a training workshop organsed by Vajira Sri Children’s home to help children to face an audition and also how to sign on stage with using microphones and backed by other musical instruments.

Volleyball- Vajirians participated in the Volleyball Championship organized by the National Youth and became champions and was able to participated in the District Level Tournament.
