Initially the children were sent to schools in the Neighborhood. This had become a problem, as the other school children started discriminating these children as orphans, and trouble makers. They were seen as a problem even to the people in the village.

This resulted in the starting of Vajira Vidyalaya. Volunteer teaches provided the education for the children. Later the school changed its name and is now known as WP/Jayawardanapura Indrasiri Vidyalaya.

This school is registered as a non assisted Government school . At present professionally qualified teachers are responsible for the compulsory education programme of the children in Vajira Sri Children’s Development Centre. Classes from lower kindergarten up to General Certificate Examination Ordinary Level are held in the school. In addition extracurricular activities such as sports, dancing, music are also part of the school work.
